For our Honeymoon, Jay and I went to the Excellence Resort in Punta Cana. We LOVED it. It was an all-inclusive resort, which in my opinion (unless money is not an object to you) is the way to go. There is just one flat fee that you pay when you book, which includes your room, food, and alcohol, and you don’t have to worry about it for the rest of the trip. Even though I was pregnant (therefore not drinking), we still did the all inclusive deal. That way, we could just order whatever we wanted without thinking twice or feeling guilty about it. Even if you say beforehand that you’re not going to worry about money on this special trip, you’ll still find yourself thinking, “Should I reallyyyy order the lobster again?” or “Maybe I don’t want another $15 cocktail by the pool.” With an all inclusive, you betcha you’ll order the lobster again AND get that cocktail by the pool. On our honeymoon, after we had already eaten dinner at 7pm, Jay ordered steak and potatoes to our room at midnight “just because he wanted it.” I guarantee he would not have done that if it was not already paid for.
Still, I know that some of you reading this do not want to go with the all inclusive route, and that’s okay. Maybe you don’t even want a tropical beach honeymoon at all. I’ve put together a handful of amazing, yet different honeymoon ideas for you.
Stay-cation at The Sanctuary Resort Kiawah Island, SC
I know a lot of you reading this are South Carolina based. Why go somewhere far away when one of the most amazing resorts is in your backyard? I’ve actually stayed at the sanctuary before, and it was one of the most amazing vacations I’ve ever had. There are beautiful pools, and you’re of course on the beach. There is also a spa and a golf course. There is a reason why it is a 5 star resort, and it shows. From the staff’s attention to detail, to the decor, to the amazing food, this place if fabulous.
The Greenbrier Resort White Sulphur Springs, WV
This is another fabulous resort that I have gotten the opportunity to visit. The Greenbrier is the most incredible place I’ve ever been to. The decoration, which was done by Dorothy Draper, is unlike anything else I’ve ever seen before. There are 3 golf courses on the property. There is also an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, bowling, carriage tours, falconry, a spa, and the list goes on. The houses on the property are beautiful. I told Jay that if we ever make it big time, that is where I want our vacation home (just kidding) (kind of).
El San Juan Hotel San Juan, Puerto Rico
This hotel is perfect for if you want that tropical feel, but don’t want to do an all inclusive. We got to stay at this hotel for New Years last year, and we fell in love. It wasn’t too crowded. It had multiple pools, and of course was on the water. They had amazing restaurants that were never hard to get into. They had a club on site that was PACKED every night (in a good way). They had live music nightly. My favorite part about this hotel is that it was only 20 minutes from the beautiful and lively downtown Old San Juan.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Spa and Resort Orlando, FL
I know what you’re thinking. “Disney? For a honeymoon?” But hey! Many people have done it! I personally LOVE Disney. I’m being 100% serious when I say that Disney has some of the best hotels that I’ve been to. You don’t believe me? Just google “Disney’s Grand Floridian Spa and Resort.” ‘Nuff said.
Wequassett Resort and Golf Club Cape Cod, Massachusetts
I am DYING to stay at Wequassett. When I went to Cape Cod for a week, I stayed in a beautiful house, which of course is another route you can choose to take. All of the houses in Cape Cod are stunning. However, Wequassett Resort is described as the “quintessential Cape Cod experience.” Just picturing myself there is giving me MAJOR Jackie O feels.
I hope you enjoyed this list of “not-your-typical-all-inclusive” honeymoon spots. While I stand by what I said about all-inclusive giving you the most bang for your buck, these other destinations will leave you with an incredibly memorable experience.
